I’ve recently submitted a design concept to the Burnaby Art’s Council to produce a 15×7’ mural. Their proposed theme is “Culture Blast” which also happens to also be the name of their annual arts festival that works in conjunction with the Burnaby Art Gallery and the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
Stepping away from my signature style of female portraits, I’ve created an illustration composed of ink and acrylic paint. This mural concept encompasses the “best of all worlds” — a merging of the arts, through the dance of nature, various ethnicities and social influences, work toward the ultimate goal… positive change.
My creation is inspired from a variety of art disciplines with the primary focus on contemporary, illustrative “street art” style, which I feel has had an influence on the Vancouver art scene in recent years. I love trying new things and this piece took me to another level of design — both technically and emotionally. Click on the image above for larger view.
I encourage every artist to try new techniques and styles. Would love to hear about your stories of stepping outside creative boundaries…
Extend yourself and you will be surprised.
